About Me
Hi, I'm Lila
I'm an experienced executive, senior leader, coach, and mentor. I am passionate about helping people become great leaders and learning to thrive sustainably rather than survive. Here is the story of how I started my business in 2024.
My career
My overall career has been anything but linear. I have extensive and robust experience across communications, strategy, sales, marketing, public affairs, public relations, digital transformation, influence and engagement. I have leapt from the fitness industry to manufacturing, telecoms, and financial services. I am proud to have broken through the glass ceiling to become a female executive in Financial Services. I am incredibly resilient and a brilliant problem solver who can adapt and think under intense pressure.
As a very energetic and ambitious person who never went to university, I am fortunate to be surrounded by some of the most incredible and inspirational people, including my family, friends, work colleagues, mentors and trusted advisors. These are my brilliant network, and I love them all.
On the flip side, I have also learned the destruction that can be caused by a few ego-driven and self-serving people who label themselves coaches, sponsors, or mentors. Choose your network wisely.
My values
I am passionate about my values of kindness, integrity, approachability, authenticity and fun. Focusing on values has helped me stick to the things that work and move on from those that don't.
Work should also be enjoyable. When it stops being fun, it's time to move on (easier said than done). And yes, the best leaders are the kindest and most genuine. You can have tough conversations in an environment of trust and kindness; don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
My vision
We all have visions for the future; however, we often struggle to create a clear plan to achieve them simply because we feel unsure of where we are now - we often get lost, become crippled with anxiety and struggle to make decisions or permit ourselves to succeed. This applies equally to individuals, teams, and organisations and me.
My coaching and mentoring programmes guide you on a journey of self-discovery, challenge your reality, help you learn, challenge you deeply and help you move towards your goals. My passion lies in working with people to challenge negative narratives or limiting beliefs, turning 'I can't' into 'I can', or even better, 'I did it'.
'If I can do it, then you can too.'
How my business evolved
Last year was the most challenging year of my career. I loved my job but felt deeply unsatisfied. I worked every hour of the day and night, and my personal life suffered. Work had completely taken over.
I was shattered, irritable, lacked motivation, stopped laughing and being mischievous, and all I wanted to do was sleep and be on my own. I was lost, but I kept pushing and thought I needed resilience; in fact, many negative people kept telling me my life and career depended on it. It was at this point that my body took over. One morning, I woke up with something called TMJD, an excruciating jaw disorder linked to stress and burnout. I struggled to talk, eat and function.
The doctor signed me off sick for a month. I sat in front of the TV, watching nonsense, hating myself and crying. This strong, smart, award-winning, experienced, confident, fun-loving person was broken.
The change
After a few weeks, someone I trusted challenged my negative self-talk. They said, 'Resilience isn't about sticking with something until a bitter and bad end. Being resilient is about being strong in the face of adversity; sometimes, walking away or making a change for yourself is the most resilient thing to do.'
At this moment, I realised I needed to make a significant change. In February 2024, I took a leap of faith, enrolled in the ILM Level 7 Diploma in Executive Coaching and Mentoring, and left my corporate role. The journey has been slightly scary, positive and life-changing. I've surprised myself by igniting a passion for academic research and writing. I've realised that I have vast experience and that leadership is my superpower. This has allowed me to draw on years of leadership experience to help others.
My home
I can't finish without mentioning my wonderful husband, Tony, who has been a rock throughout this life overhaul (or midlife crisis, as I call it). We share our home with Saffie, our amazing 13-year-old lurcher.
My Peleton has been a mental lifesaver in the last 12 months. I love skiing, a good night out, good food, and a nice glass of red wine.
Please explore my website, read my blogs, watch a video or two (cringe!), connect with me on social media, or contact me for a free, no-obligation chat.
I'd love to hear from you and see how I can help you thrive, not just survive.
